GUADALUPE/MALINTZIN Painting up at Ave 50 Gallery on March 10

Hi Y'all!

Just wanted to give the heads up on an upcoming gallery exhibit at Gallery Ave 50. A group of artists were asked to give their visual interpretation of the relationships of Guadalupe and Malintzin.  Both are two extremely important female figures in the history of Mexico.

Should be interesting! Come if you can.

Image composed in Photoshop using Levels, blur, curves, hue saturation...

Adding to what Joel taught us last night... I just wanted to show how the use of adjustment layers such as levels, hue saturation, blur, and so on could tie your whole project together...

This image is composed of 5 different elements and adjusted to look like they were all captured at the same time and the same place...

these are the images I used...

Research and Textures

Hey guys,

There is a site called CGTextures that might be a useful resource for research. You'll have to register (free) with them to obtain larger resolutions of their images, but they have a lot of good stuff.

Plein Air Painting

Hey guys, I noticed a number of people in class talking about plein air painting, and I thought I'd post this for anyone who doesn't know about this blog. James Gurney has a daily blog, which focuses heavily on realistic painting and has a lot of tips on color theory and composition. I put a link with posts labelled plein air, but there's a whole lot more to explore on his blog.

Yuriy Norshteyn

Hey guys,

This is the Russian guy who did stop-motion cut-out experimental animation for those who want to know - Yuriy Norshteyn. Here is his profile in IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0635956/

And below are some links to his work that I've enjoyed watching since I discovered him:

Hedgehog in the Fog: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smDlBmeeWck

The Heron and the Crane: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3KQ8tQRpas&feature=related

and my personal favorite, Tale of Tales: (Long clip) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_q3WoYawNI

You might want to look the last one up after watching it. If you can fully understand Tale of Tales by only viewing the film, you're probably some sort of analytical genius.

Have fun!

Digital Art needs: Monitor Calibration, Seating Ergonomics Brush Creation and more

I think this artist is a video game concept artist and this site is really great for Photoshop fundamentals. Also includes perspective, blending techniques, and demo reels.

Struggling With Perspective?

This is a really good book and very inexpensive.  Definitely a must have when it comes to Perspective...

How to make custom brushes in Photoshop

1.first you have to draw out your brush with any brush you want. (only in black)... it could be any shape you want... the more unique the better:)

2. After you have the silouhette for your brush... then you go to Edit> Define Brush Presets> Name your brush

3. Voila!!! you have your brush!!!!

****Also... you can save your Brush Presets in  the "TOOL PRESETS."
go to window> tool presets>then in the top right corner option box select > New tool presets> Name your tool Preset

You can make it as personal as you want, you can even set your tool to a certain color or anything!!!
